Karl Pearson

Pearson is a tremendous figure in statistics, and the inventor of some of the tools still most commonly used by statisticians, amateur and professional. His long feud with Fisher represents the clash of two equally arrogant temperaments, but also of two Protean personalities, each confident of his powers, who between them, and with the fruitful intermediation of Gosset, defined statistical progress in England, and in the world, up to the middle of the 20th century.
