SEECR
The Southeast Early China Roundtable derives from a meeting convened in 1997 by Anne Kinney at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville; it took place from 24 to 26 October. The purpose, according to one who was there, was "to decrease the loneliness of early China scholars teaching in the southeastern US by providing them with a yearly venue for scholarly exchange. Much of the meeting was devoted to discussion of what we wanted the meetings to consist of and how to deal with such problems as funding." The second meeting was hosted by Keith Knapp at The Citadel. There were seven in attendance; only a few gave presentations. "After the 1998 meeting, it became standard practice for all participants to give presentations."
